"My wife asked me to create a portrait of Patrick Lalime and I wanted to try something different that would bring out the unique separation between a goalie and his protective head gear instead of focusing on the hemet's intricate design. I decided to draw attention to the metal of the mask and at the same time show the expressiveness of the face beneath in a way no photograph could. Since I was already using a theme of three dimensional illusion I decided to push the theme further by overlapping all three images to create a drawing that seems to receed into space. I wanted to convey the attitude of perserverance that has marked the career of Patrick Lalime."
